This month PlusUs hosted a LEE talk at Broken Goblet Brewery featuring a short talk from Michael Darfler, former program director of the Department of Making + Doing, a makerspace located in The University City Science Center,. Michael spoke about his experiences at the Department of Making + Doing, and the importance of making things tangible. He then led a discussion on how to integrate making principles into their classroom. Following the talk, the League took part in a tower building activity to demonstrate how a simple making activity can bring people together.

The inaugural League of Extraordinary Educators meetup was a series of short TED style talks. Thomas Ullom, Department Head of Technology Education at MaST CCS, discussed how technology can help move education to a discovery-based model. Wynn Geary, a graduating senior at Science Leadership Academy discussed how his experiences with inquiry driven and project based learning allowed him to find a symbiotic relationship between his personal interests and his education. Anna Hentz, a gifted humanities teacher at Shafer Middle School, discussed how today’s teachers can keep up with increasing demands and provided strategies and guiding principles to do so.
